The Underpaid Elf combines the chaotic cooking fun of Overcooked with the progression mechanics of a roguelike. As an underpaid elf, your mission is to fulfill holiday orders, upgrade your workspace, and achieve the highest score possible.

Gameplay

The gameplay is realatively simple. You can walk, move tables, pick up and put down items, and interact with items that are on certain tables. The

Creation

The game was inspired by my winter 2023, a time well spent with friends. The core idea of a game about elf and hand-drawn style was inspired by a zine I made with friends, in which stranded elf is being helped by a hermit penguin. Below you can witness the artwork itself:

After that there was a question of gameplay, what kind of game will it be? Again, here the time I spent with friends kicks in, as we spent much of christmass break playing Overcooked. I am fascinated by how stressful it manages to be, and I tried my best ot recreate that feeling. However one thing that you will not find in Overcooked is the upgrades system, which was borrowed from another game I spent a lot of time playing around same time Bounty of One.

There are current plans to update the game either December 2024 or early 2025.
